Matteo Guendouzi is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his right knee during training on Monday.
The France international, who joined Marseille from Arsenal in January, has been ruled out for at least six months and will undergo surgery in Paris this week.
Guendouzi's injury comes as a blow for Marseille, who were already struggling with injuries ahead of the start of the new season.
The club's medical staff have said that he is expected to make a full recovery, but it remains to be seen how long he will be out of action.
